BCCI announces reforms for 2024-25 domestic cricket season
The upcoming 2024-25 domestic cricket season, pending approval from the apex council of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will undergo a major overhaul aimed at optimizing player performance and ensuring a balanced schedule. Major changes are planned.
The reforms, outlined by BCCI chief Jay Shah, include increasing the interval between matches to give players adequate recovery time and holding the prestigious Ranji Trophy in two phases. included.
As per the proposed schedule, the season will begin with Duleep Trophy, followed by Irani Cup. The Ranji Trophy will then begin with the first five league matches for each team, followed by the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) and the Vijay Hazare Trophy (50 overs). The Ranji Trophy will conclude with the remaining two league matches and the knockout stage.
Additionally, a new point system will be introduced in the CK Nayadu Trophy, the under-23 state tournament, to ensure balanced performance, with a review of its possible introduction in the Ranji Trophy expected at the end of the season. ing.
Other notable changes include doing away with the toss in CK Nayadu Trophy matches and giving the visiting team the right to choose to bat or bowl first. Additionally, all women's interzone tournaments will feature teams selected by national selectors.
These reforms were recommended by a working group comprising prominent cricket figures such as Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Ajit Agarkar and Abhay Kuruvilla to improve the quality of domestic cricket and improve the quality of players.
