LITTLETON, Colo. (KDVR) — A group of mothers brought together by their children is going the extra mile.
Colorado Mom Tribe, led by Mariah Gillaspie, Amber Reynolds, and Lindsey Cayley, provides support, resources, and community to women raising children with special needs.
“It's really amazing that the moms who have become my best friends get to experience this journey together,” Reynolds said.
The group started with six mothers and has now grown to about 400 members.
“We have monthly events to bring everyone together, but behind the scenes we have a huge part of why we raise money for Mindful Moms, hospital care packages, bereavement gifts. “I'm here,” Kayley said.
The group will compete in the 2024 Denver-Colfax Marathon Relay on May 19 to raise money for the Colorado Mom Tribe.
“The mothers run in different positions in the relay, so the first mother runs 6 miles, the second mother runs 4 miles, and so on until she completes the full marathon,” Reynolds said.
Gillaspie said 25 mothers from the group are participating in six teams.
“Our mothers are very strong in many ways, and I think running Colfax is another testament to how strong we are,” Gillaspie said.
With only a week left until race day, the group said they were excited to run for a special purpose.
“I get to hang out with all my good friends, get out and be active, and raise money for amazing nonprofits,” Kayley said.
