BOSTON – Two cousins are about to embark on a 220-mile journey from Boston to New York. They're doing it for an important purpose.
“It's going to be a long distance. It's going to be fun, but it's worth it because you get to bond with your cousins by running that distance,” Tanner Khan said.
Tunnel to Towers Foundation
Tanner Kahn and Jordan Tucker continue training together to raise funds for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports fatally injured veterans, first responders, and their families. There is.
“I love this country and everything it stands for. The backbone of this country is our first responders and our military, and this organization is willing to go out and help families and help loved ones in the ultimate The fact that you're making sacrifices. That's definitely a no-brainer,” Tanner said.
He hopes to start Sunday at the 911 Memorial in Boston and finish a week later at the 911 Memorial in New York.
“I'm really excited, just to be able to help people, obviously help people who don't get the respect they deserve when they go home and volunteer firefighters,” Jordan Tucker said. ” he said.
improving health
Both Jordan and Tanner use their experience to improve their health and wellness. They also want to make a difference in the lives of others.
“My weight used to be 340 pounds and I couldn’t run a mile in 2018. As it turns out, running is one of the things that helped me lose weight, and once I lost weight, was the way to maintain it: You can do anything on your own.”
Tucker, now 37, has struggled with drugs and alcohol for more than a decade. But running helped him recover.
“I've been drug-free for eight years and alcohol-free for two years. When you have confidence in yourself, you can do things like this and help others.”
50,000 for Gold Star Families
The pair have run for other charities in the past. But this will be their biggest challenge, as they hope to raise $50,000 for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
“We're paying off the mortgage on our Gold Star family,” Jordan said.
“Money is never wasted because every time a person dies in war or in first responders, a family is left behind,” Tanner said.
