The official song of Euro 2024 has been released on all streaming platforms ahead of the upcoming tournament. Germany is scheduled to hold a large-scale tournament starting June 14th.
This will be the third time in the history of the European Championship that the match will be held in Germany. The country previously hosted the competition in 1988, and his four matches during Euro 2020 were also held in Munich.
The newly released song “Fire” features a collaboration between three famous music artists. Italian electric trio Meduza will headline the national anthem.
Meduza previously took the scene by storm in 2019 with her debut album Piece of Your Heart. The album was an immediate success and was eventually certified platinum here in the United States.
“Now more than ever, there is no denying the power of music to unite us,” Meduza said upon the record's release. “As big soccer fans, we are excited to be able to combine our passion for soccer with the music of UEFA Euro 2024.”
Euro 2024 organizers announce new social media campaign
In addition to the electronic trio, OneRepublic and German singer-songwriter Leony also collaborated on the track. Ryan Tedder, lead vocalist of OneRepublic, wrote the song for Euro His 2024. Just like Meduza, this pop-rock band also has his album platinum. “Native” was released in his 2013 year and featured the hit song “Counting Stars” as one of the band's most successful singles.
Tournament organizers also unveiled a new social media campaign called #LightYourFire. This initiative will give fans the opportunity to win tickets to the tournament finals. Football supporters are asked to share their passion for all things music and sport using the hashtag on UEFA's various social media platforms.
“Today is a special day with the release of 'Fire,'” Tedder declared. “I wrote this song for football fans and music fans around the world in the hope that this work will inspire and unite us as we countdown to UEFA Euro 2024. The #LightYourFire campaign is a global We are inviting our fans inside to join us on this journey.”
Leonie is currently a huge hit in her home country of Germany. This collaboration certainly makes sense, as the tournament is set to begin in Munich late next month. This talented singer became Germany's first platinum record in 2020 with the single “Paradise”. Leonie then achieved similar success again two years later with “Remedy”.
Host country also uses popular 80s songs for tournament
Organizers of the European Championship have used the tournament's official song since 1992. The latest national anthem to come out of the convention was “We Are the People” by Dutch DJ Martin Garrix. In addition to Garrix, the song also features Bono and The Edge from legendary Irish rock band U2.
UEFA has chosen 'Fire' as the national anthem for the next tournament, but unofficial songs will also be performed at the tournament. Peter Schilling's 1980s hit song 'Major Tom' has been sung by fans as the German national team play in recent matches. This vintage his record was also recently used by the team's Adidas Euro 2024.
