Travis Thomas, who was an assistant coach for the Jefferson Forest High School girls basketball team, has been promoted to head coach, the school's athletic director Jeremy Sink announced.
Thomas began his coaching career six years ago as an assistant at Liberty Middle School and Liberty High School before spending two seasons on the staff at Jefferson Forest.
He will replace Jake Whitman, who led the Cavaliers for five years.
“Coach Thomas intends to establish a team culture of respect, discipline and hard work among our players and staff,” Sink said in a statement. “While focusing on defensive energy and offensive skill work, preparation and game planning.”
Thomas, a Lynchburg native and Heritage High School graduate, is the founder and director of HOYE (Helping Youth Excellence), a Bedford-based community organization, and serves as a community resource officer for the Bedford Police Department .
