DAVIDSON COUNTY — Two students, including one from Davidson County, have won Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships from Energy United for summer basketball camps at two of the state's most prestigious college campuses. I participated in.
Ella Taylor of Tilo Middle School will attend Wolfpack Girls' Basketball Camp at North Carolina State University, and Jackson Ward of North Iredell Middle School will attend Carolina Basketball School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, both Energy players. He received a full scholarship from United.
“We are pleased to announce Ella and Jackson as the 2024 Sports Camp Scholarship recipients,” said Marilyn Lineberger, Corporate Communications Manager, EnergyUnited. “This program reflects our cooperative’s continued investment in students and communities across our service locations.”
Ella and Jackson were selected by a panel of judges based on interviews and applications, including academic performance, extracurricular activities, and essays.
During overnight camps, students stay in on-campus dorms and absorb hardwood forest lessons from college coaches and current and former student-athletes. Coaches and players at both camps work closely with each camper to develop the foundational skills to excel on and off the court.
The NC State women's camp is led by head coach Wes Moore, his coaching staff, and current and former NC State women's basketball players. The UNC camp is led by head coach and former Tar Heel player Hubert Davis and his staff, as well as current and past Tar Heel basketball players.
This year, more than 50 students from across the state will participate in basketball camps with Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships from North Carolina Electric Cooperatives. Now in its 21st year, the scholarship program demonstrates the electric cooperative's commitment to building a brighter future through continued support of education and community programs.
