DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) โ The Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team has acquired a coveted veteran guard through the transfer portal.
Theon James, a 6-foot-6 guard, announced on his Instagram Friday morning that he has signed with Duke University.
James played four seasons at Tulane. He appeared in all 31 games for the Green Wave last season, averaging 14 points per game (third on the team) and 5.4 rebounds (second on the team), while playing the most minutes per game at 36.8.
The guard from Sugar Hill, Ga., is a graduate transfer and still has a season of eligibility left.
James is the Blue Devils' third transfer, joining forward Malik Brown from Syracuse and forward Mason Gillis from Purdue. They will join veteran Tyrese Proctor, the only player in the majors from last season to return to Duke. Caleb Foster, who did not play in the NCAA Tournament due to an ankle injury, has not yet announced his plans for next season, but is expected to return.
Duke will have five freshmen, including No. 1 recruit Cooper Flagg and five-star recruits Carman Maluha and Isaiah Evans.
