Michigan State men's basketball hasn't been very active in the transfer portal in recent years, bringing in just one transfer since former Spartan guard Tyson Walker in 2021, forward Frankie Fiddler.
But coach Tom Izzo's program remains one of the best in the recruiting department, which has always seemed to have success in an area coached by the legendary Spartan.
In particular, his next class will be attracting attention.
As of Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CST, 247Sports ranks Michigan State men's basketball's 2024 recruiting class 15th in the nation and 3rd in the Big Ten.
The Spartans have two four-star players who will be on the hardwood next season. Jace Richardson, a combo guard who is the son of Michigan State men's basketball legend Jason Richardson, and Kar Ten, a shooting guard from Haverhill, Massachusetts.
Jace Richardson played at Columbus High School in Miami, Florida after transferring from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Jace Richardson appeared in 30 games with Columbus last season, averaging 15.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, according to MaxPreps.
Jace Richardson is ranked as the No. 3 combo guard in the nation in 2024, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Ten is a 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard who is the No. 1 2024 freshman in the state of Massachusetts and the No. 8 shooting guard in the nation, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is the 51st best prospect in the nation.
Michigan State also signed Jesse McCulloch, a 2024 three-star big man out of Lutheran East High School in Ohio.
The 6-foot-9, 190-pounder is ranked as the No. 7 2024 prospect in Ohio and No. 27 nationally in the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Michigan State's 2024 recruiting class only has three signees, but that's enough to make it one of the best classes in all of college hoops.
Izzo has made it clear that he doesn't approve of the portal, and it's certainly not his first choice recruiting vehicle. But for a program that excels at developing promising players and has produced players who have excelled at the professional level, Izzo can never be left out when it comes to recruiting classes.
