Niles, Illinois (CBS) – Kayden Frawley, a senior on Notre Dame Prep’s men’s volleyball team, does more than just play the game.
Flory uses her talents to raise money for cancer research and the American Cancer Society.
Over the past few years, his family, people close to him and members of the community have been affected by this disease.
So Flory donates $1 for every dig.
“I get to involve the whole community, so my coaches, coaches from other teams, even my teammates, they support me,” he said. “I've heard stories where I searched as hard as I could, only to hear someone yell, 'That's a dollar!'” I can tell that everyone wants me to be successful in this field. That alone means a lot to me.”
Notre Dame Prep head coach Pater Maniscalco said Frawley came up with the idea and wanted to make a difference, “just putting different colored laces or writing something on the shoes.'' I want to do something more than just that.”
“He really felt he could make an impact. That's who he is,” Maniscalco said. “Right now, we have five or six coaches that have agreed to play against us. We have coaches on staff, we have local coaches, we have teams that we've played against. I was really, really happy to see that support. “So at the game venue,” he hopes to reach his goal of $1,500 by the end of the year, and he's currently having a record-breaking season. ”
Maniscalco added that Flory is expected to play in more than 240 games with eight to 10 games left in the season.
The American Cancer Society will be participating in Flory's Senior Night next week. Frawley said he would like to see other sports adopt his idea.
