WILLIAMSBURG, VA—William & Mary Women's Soccer Head Coach julie shackford, announced the Tribe's 2024 schedule on Tuesday. Shackford, who led his alma mater to the CAA semifinals for the first time since 2017 last year, is in his sixth season as the Tribe's bench boss.
W&M's 2024 schedule will consist of 18 games, nine in Williamsburg and nine on the road.
The Tribe begins a new campaign by renewing its series against federal foe Radford at the road on Aug. 15. W&M leads the Highlanders in the all-time series 7-4-1. However, the two teams have only met once this century, with the Tribe winning 2-1 at home in 2013. This year's trip to Radford, Virginia will be the Tribe's first since 1983.
The home opener is scheduled for one week later on August 22nd when the Tribe welcomes the Tribe to Old Dominion's Martin Family Stadium. This was the 32nd meeting between the two teams, which ended in a 1-1 draw in Norfolk last year.n.d. everytime. The Tribe is 14-3 against ODU in Williamsburg.
The Monarchs aren't the only repeat opponent from preseason for Shackford's team. The Tribe will play games on the road against George Mason (August 25) and VCU (August 29) before returning to Martin Family Stadium against Temple (September 1) and Richmond (September 5). ). Last season, W&M defeated Mason, Richmond and Temple, but tied with VCU.
W&M will finish non-conference with two new opponents on the schedule. The Tribe will host Princeton, where Shackford was head coach before returning to his alma mater, on Sept. 8, before traveling to North Carolina (Sept. 12) to wrap up preparations for conference play.
CAA's action begins on September 19th with a trip to Hampton, before returning home on September 22nd to host UNCW. The Tribe will then head north to take on Monmouth on September 26th in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
Upon returning home, the team will prepare for two home games against Delaware (September 26) and Charleston (October 6). After that, they will travel to two consecutive tournaments: Elon (October 10th) and Campbell (October 13th).
The regular season concludes with home games against Drexel on October 17th and Hofstra on October 20th, followed by the final game on the road against defending CAA champion Towson (October 27th).
William & Mary hopes to build on its preseason success, which saw it reach the CAA semifinals at 9-4-7, 6-3-3 CAA. Last year's version of the Tribe achieved an undefeated non-conference record for the first time in program history. The team returns 24 players from a season ago and added nine freshmen.
