The Ohio High School Athletic Association on Monday announced the preliminary divisional breakdown and regional tournament representatives for the 2024-2025 winter sports postseason tournaments.
The OHSAA Board of Directors approved new divisions and tournament representatives for all winter sports except wrestling at its April board meeting, including the previously announced fall sports divisions. Wrestling is scheduled to be announced June 10, pending board approval.
OHSAA Director of Public Affairs Tim Streed said in a news release that if Referendum 1B passes this spring, OHSAA member schools may elect to move up to Division I, which could lead to divisional assignments and regional tournaments. said that it should be considered as preliminary. The results of the referendum will be announced on May 16th.
Any changes to division assignments or tournament representation as a result of a school's election to participate in Division I will be announced by the OHSAA at a later date.
As announced last February, women's and men's basketball next season will be expanded to seven divisions, with the largest 64 schools placed in Division I, the next largest 64 schools placed in Division II, and the remaining schools will be split into other divisions as evenly as possible.
Earlier this spring, the OHSAA received a letter of intent from the Ohio Department of Education for use in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years, consisting of students in grades 9, 10, and 11 as of October 2023. We have received your registration data. During the winter months, women's and men's basketball will utilize competitive balance data from previous seasons to create new adjusted enrollment numbers.
