As we've seen several times during the 2024 transfer portal season, once the national media started making projections for Indiana, things turned around for the Hoosiers.
On Sunday evening, 247Sports national analyst Travis Branham predicted Bellarmine center Langdon Hatton would end up at IU. Branham and others made accurate calls before announcing the hiring decisions of Indiana's Miles Rice, Kanaan Carlisle, Omar Barro and Luke Good.
Indiana has two open scholarships on its 2024-25 roster, and Hutton, a product of Georgetown, Indiana, would clearly fill that need.
The 6-foot-10, 240-pound Hatton started all 31 games for Bellarmine in the 2023-24 season. In the biggest role of his career, he averaged 10.5 points and 7.1 rebounds in 27.8 minutes per game. Hatton made 48 percent of his field goals overall, including 33.3 percent (15-of-45). He added 24 blocks on the season.
Hutton began his career at William & Mary and played his final two seasons at Bellarmine.
The North Harrison HS product's turnover rate in 2023-24 was just 10.4%, good for 187th in the nation. He also ranked in the top 500 in the nation in defensive rebound rate (19.5%, 252nd), block rate (3.2%, 355th), fouls per 40 minutes (2.3, 444th), and offensive rebounds. (7.6%, No.463).
Hutton has one year of eligibility remaining. If he chooses IU, he would give the Hoosiers much-needed frontcourt depth next season. Of the 11 scholarship players currently on the roster, only three are expected to play the power forward and center positions: Baro, Malik Renaud and Mackenzie Mugako. And Mugako started at small forward when he was a freshman a year ago and will likely do the same next season.
Hutton has interest from other high majors, including Ohio State, Louisville, Clemson and Minnesota.
