Will Ferrell appears to have joined the ranks of Hollywood A-listers who have invested in English football, exciting the British sports media.
The Sun reports that the 56-year-old, along with Wrexham's Rob McElhenny and Ryan Reynolds, has invested heavily with the club's owners 49ers Enterprise to support Leeds.
It appears Ferrell has become a big fan of the Championship club and can't wait to see them play at Elland Road in the near future.
The famous actor also has a stake in Los Angeles FC, a Major League Soccer club. While on a six-day holiday with his friends and watching matches across the country, he confessed his love for English football.
Since making an unexpected appearance at Manchester City's stadium on Sky Sports last season, he has become a regular sight at UK venues. “I'm not really taking sides here, I just enjoy following all the stories. It's obviously a very good league,” he said.
Ferrell's arrival is imminent.
The Whites said they would not confirm whether Ferrell had arrived in the boardroom as they never speak to special interests.
But the article goes on to say that the comedian had already made payments to the club's U.S. owners, 49ers Enterprises. Moreover, they will reveal his role soon, an insider confirmed.
“It’s true – Will Ferrell owns a stake in Leeds. The 49ers are expected to announce his involvement in the coming days and he’s looking forward to sprinkling a little stardust into the club.” loves football and is particularly impressed by the passion for the English game.
“And his aim now is to get Leeds back where they belong – back to the Premier League. As far as Will and the 49ers are concerned, this is a significant investment opportunity,” they told The Sun.
Celebrities appear one after another in British football
Leeds missed out on automatic promotion to the Premier League and will therefore be competing in the play-offs. Ipswich finished second, with Daniel Farke's side third, six points behind. This means they will face Norwich in the semi-final on May 26th, with the winner facing either Southampton or West Brom in the final at Wembley.
Ferrell will reveal his family ties and wear the club's signature white, yellow and blue scarf alongside Leeds investor Russell Crowe, according to reports. In fact, many other celebrities have invested in English football clubs.
The most popular of them is, of course, Wrexham's Hollywood duo Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. However, the list also includes rappers Stormzy (who invested in Croydon Athletic last year), Michael B. Jordan (part-owner of Bournemouth) and LeBron James (who invested in Liverpool).
There was also talk of wanting to invest in Wrexham with Reynolds and McElhenney. However, a rumored deal with Leeds put an end to that. He and Reynolds appeared in the FA Trophy final at Wembley in May 2022, when Wrexham lost to Bromley.
