MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association has appointed former India pacer Raju Kulkarni, who was Mumbai senior chief selector last season, as the new chairman of the MCA Cricket Improvement Committee, TOI has learnt. . MCA has also decided to bring in former Indian women's team captain Diana Edulji as cricket advisor for women's cricket, while former Mumbai captain Milind Rej will remain as cricket advisor for men's cricket.
The decision was taken at the association's apex council meeting held at BKC on Saturday. Kulkarni replaced former India opener Lalchand Rajput, who served as CIC chairman last year. Rajput has been appointed as MCA's 'advisor' for the upcoming Mumbai Premier League.
While Kulkarni will be the new CIC chief, the other members will continue to be former Indian women's team player Preity Dimri and former Mumbai opener Sahil Kukreja. Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy for the first time in eight years by defeating Vidarbha in the final in March this year.
Kulkarni, who has led CIC in the past, cited lack of time as the main reason for choosing to take on a different role at MCA this time. “I explained to the MCA president and secretary that I wanted to serve and contribute to Mumbai Cricket, but they were not able to give me the time required for the job of chief selector. Thank you to the MCA for agreeing to my request. I would like to spend the season with all the selection committees,” Kulkarni told TOI.
Meanwhile, MCA is yet to finalize the MPL dates as there are some “legal issues” involved.
