Sophomore forwards Bryn Knight and Ella Peterson each scored a goal and the Indian River High School girls soccer team defeated host Lake Forest 2-1 in a Henlopen Conference South Division game on Tuesday, April 30th. He defeated them and contributed to the victory.
Peterson scored his team-leading sixth goal, giving the Green & Gold a 1-0 lead just nine minutes into the game. She deftly took a pass from sophomore forward Allie Tucker.
Knight scored his second goal of the season in the 58th minute for the winning goal. Her bullet broke a 1-1 tie created by Spartans senior Carly Coleman's goal five minutes earlier.

IRHS sophomore Allie Tucker scored the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute on Thursday, April 25, as the Indians played solid defense to bounce back from a tough loss to Sussex Academy two days earlier.
“The girls had a great performance against a top Division I team,” said IRSD Soccer Head Coach Brant Meis. “I was really proud of the resilience they showed after the heavy defeat to Sussex Academy.”
Tucker, who has scored at least one point in six of the Indians' eight games this season, scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season on an assist from sophomore forward Kamdyn Shockley.
“Allie made a great shot from 30 yards to go and hit it off the post to win the game,” Meis said. “And Cammie Shockley provided the perfect assist on that play.”
Senior goaltender Alex Davidson made eight saves, recording his second shutout of the season and 16th in his four-year career.
Davidson benefited from a solid defense that kept Villanova University midfielder Desiree Zapata from scoring.
“Keeping Zapata scoreless was a great team achievement and effort, especially from the defenders and Alex,” said Mais. “Zapata has scored 14 goals in every game he has played this year, except for us, Sussex Tech and Middletown, which is the No. 1 ranked team in the state.
“The girls put up a great fight, played good soccer, and most importantly showed great character to get a big win,” Meis added. “I’m looking forward to seeing what the second half of the season has in store.”
Indian River improved to 5-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play.
Smyrna fell to 3-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play.
