Kansas State's basketball program was one of the few teams that didn't lose a player to the transfer portal this offseason. With Johnny Furphy expected to remain in the NBA Draft and LaBaron Fillon opting out, the roster looks a little different than it did a few weeks ago. The Jayhawks may bring in another move in the near future, but he probably won't be notable enough to change the current roster.
This is a graph of the projected Kansas basketball player depth after the 2024 transfer portal cycle ends.
1. Dajuan Harris
2. Elmarco Jackson
3. Zeke Mayo
4. Jamari McDowell
Harris is in his final season at Kansas and will undoubtedly start at point guard. However, his role could be slightly reduced with more scoring options in the backcourt. He will continue to do what he does best: encourage his teammates and create shots.
Meanwhile, Jackson was a transfer candidate, but ended up staying with Lawrence for one more season. The former McDonald's All-American should improve a lot from his freshman year by learning from Harris' back, but if he struggles, chances may be hard to come by. on the attacking side.
As for Mayo, he's not your typical point guard, but he's a solid playmaker and could see some minutes as the primary ball handler. If the team needs defensive energy, McDowell should get similar playing time in short spurts to last season. He will have a much shorter lead than Jackson.
