During transfer season, visits are always called off, often just before the target suddenly decides to move elsewhere or check out other suitors instead. So while former Rutgers big man Clifford Omoruyi recently reiterated his plans to come to Chapel Hill starting Thursday, the fact that he confirmed his arrival on social media is a sign that the UNC basketball staff remains a high-profile team. This is a positive sign that the company is on solid ground. Race.
Omoruyi, a former four-star prep player at Roselle Catholic (N.J.), is a 6-foot-11, 240-pounder from Nigeria who was named to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team twice and was a one-year player. After a period of time, he entered the portal on March 20th. Qualifications remain.
Just before noon Thursday, the 22-year-old posted a clip to Instagram of him sitting inside Raleigh-Durham International Airport, less than 32 miles from the Dean E. Smith Center.
Following previous visits to Alabama, Georgetown and Kansas State, he confirmed this visit to the Tar Heels will be his last recruiting trip before deciding where he will spend his graduate campaign.
Last season, Clifford Omoruyi averaged 10.5 points and 8.3 rebounds for the Scarlet Knights. And he led the Big Ten in blocks with a whopping 2.9 blocks per game.
There's no doubt he's the No. 1 target at this point for UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis and his staff, who are looking to replace outbound Tar Heel legend Armando Bacot as the program's next choice. It seems like they want to find a big man who has the potential to be a starting center.
