Antwon Stevenson has made the difficult decision to leave his new position at Northeast Guilford High School and instead become the head coach at Ragsdale High School. Stevenson, who is originally from High Point and still lives in the area, confirmed to HighSchoolOT that Ragsdale makes the car trip between home and work much shorter.
Stephenson made headlines during his nine seasons as head football coach at Glenn High School. The Bobcats' overall record under Stephenson was 58 wins and 44 losses. Glenn had some outstanding seasons under Stevenson, including a 10-2 season in 2017 and nine-win seasons in 2019 and 2021. He spent his entire 23-year coaching career at Glen.
He accepted the job at Northeast Guilford in March. Back during his first job search, Ragsdale's head coaching position was not open. On April 17, former Ragsdale head coach Johnny Boykin was confirmed as the next head coach at his alma mater, Clinton High School.
The search for Guildford in the northeast is expected to resume soon. The Rams have improved over the years under former head coach Mark Raynor. Last season, Northeast finished with an overall record of 7-4 and advanced to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's 3A West playoffs. They fell on the roads of West Charlotte in the first round.
Stevenson is looking forward to working at Ragsdale, a 4A program like Glenn. Ragsdale has an overall record of 2 wins and 8 losses on the season. The Tigers compete in the Metro 4A conference, and last season they finished sixth.
