The offseason in college basketball is usually chaotic right now, with all the opportunities presented to student-athletes.
For the last group of student-athletes to qualify for an extra season due to the coronavirus, there is another factor in their decision.
Will they return to their current school for a fifth season?
Will they enter the transfer portal for other opportunities?
Will a professional path be an option for some?
Jaylin Withers was one of two UNC basketball players who had the opportunity to take advantage of a fifth season. Like his teammate RJ Davis, the Wizards opted to return to North Carolina for the 2024-2025 campaign.
Jon Rothstein first reported the news as the Tar Heels return a 6-foot-9 forward who brings added athleticism and versatility.
The Wizards used him primarily as a reserve during his first season in Chapel Hill, as the former Louisville Cardinal played a decent role in key moments. As he started playing more minutes in postseason play, he recorded a double-double in the Tar Heels' NCAA Tournament opener against Wagner.
Some fans may say this isn't a huge move (some are still thinking about his missed 3-point shot against Alabama in the Sweet 16). But this is big news for the UNC basketball program, as the Wizards are players who can provide much-needed depth in the frontcourt.
Heading into his final college season, Wizards will look to once again be a key contributor for Hubert Davis' team. Whether he ends up starting or staying in a reserve role, Jaelin Withers will be expected to play an active role in the 2024-2025 season.
