May 1—Chloe Davis has been named the new head volleyball coach at Ottumwa High School, pending school board approval on May 6.
He graduated from OHS in 2015 and played for the Bulldog varsity volleyball team for three years from 2012 to 2014. Davis began coaching by working with a group of middle school students during his senior year at Ottumwa University and coached them through his freshman year of college.
“Chloe has been involved with this program and other programs for several years and knows what it takes to be successful,” Ottumwa Director of Athletics and Activities Brandon Brooks said. She added, “Her ability to build relationships and communicate with student-athletes and execute well-thought-out plans from youth through high school will be instrumental in the future success of our program.”
Davis graduated from the University of Iowa in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in sports and recreation management. During her college years, she continued to coach youth volleyball.
In 2022, Davis returned to Ottumwa High School to coach the freshman volleyball team and served as an assistant coach for junior varsity girls basketball last season. Ottumwa, who joined the staff under former head coach Ruth Thomas, had a 27-win season last fall and won the Iowa Alliance Conference Tournament title, but the defending 5A state champions finished in the regional semifinals. They lost to Iowa City Liberty in five sets.
Davis is currently enrolled in the master's program in professional school counseling at Buena Vista University.
