BYU plans to hire Nevada assistant athletic director Doug Stewart as chief of staff, sources said.
The Chief of Staff may evolve over time, but part of the responsibility will be to help manage NIL and advise in other capacities. This is his one of five assistant coaching positions.
A longtime assistant in college hoops, Stewart served as an assistant to Kevin Young with the Delaware 87ers of the NBA G League during the 2014-2015 NBA season. Young said in 2015 when Stewart left the 87ers to take a job at Nevada under coach Eric Musselman.
“Doug Stewart is, first of all, a great guy and secondly, a very smart basketball coach who is always thinking about the game. He has a great feel for the game, both offensively and defensively, and he Coach Stewart is able to connect and communicate with the players, so the players' development comes naturally. The players love working with him. ”
Stewart has been an assistant AD at Nevada since 2022, but prior to that he has 20 years of college coaching experience.

Stewart played for Brown in college and professionally as a player and coach for the Washington Generals (a longtime opponent of the Harlem Globetrotters) from 1994 to 1999.
Although Young is not one of the five assistants, he is a familiar sounding board for Young, providing someone with extensive experience as both a college administrator and coach.
BYU has already officially added Brandon Danson to its staff, and Chris Burgess will also be added.
