Dignitaries, VIPs and legendary cricketers gathered to learn about the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Final to be held at Kensington Oval, Barbados in June 2024.
Fort Lauderdale, Florida: To kick off promotion in South Florida for the ICC Cricket World Cup to be held on Florida Island in June 2024, the Consulate General of Barbados in Miami and Barbados Tourism Marketing Ltd. will be hosting a reception at Island Space Caribbean Museum in the evening. Distinguished guests included Noel Lynch, former Barbados Ambassador to the United States, who delivered an impassioned keynote address. He shared details of the island nation's decision to invest $50 million in preparing for the event, saying Barbados conservatively stands to earn more than $110 million from the event. . Peter Mayers, BTMI's Director of U.S. Tourism, gave an insightful presentation on the current state of the island's tourism sector in 2024 and encouraged the assembled diaspora to “We Gatherin” (Prime Minister Mia Mottley's all-inclusive vision). Consul General Rudy Grant hosted the evening and encouraged the audience to interact with Barbados, cricket and the host venue at Island Space. Other speakers included Father Anthony Holder, who began the evening with a blessing, Island Space Chairman Karibu Thompson, who welcomed attendees, and Consul Marvin Brathwaite, who delivered closing remarks.
Rum cocktails and small plates of traditional Bajan dishes such as fishcakes, macaroni pie and pelau were served by culinary ambassador Philip “Casanova” Antione and chef Craig Greenidge.
