Former USC football quarterback Caleb Williams will play alongside a trio of excellent receivers in DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and fellow rookie Roman Odunze when he enters the NFL. Before being drafted No. 1 overall by the Chicago Bears, Williams had already met the future receiver when the four practiced together in Los Angeles.
Moore had already begun to establish chemistry with Williams in pre-draft workouts, as the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback had shown promise.
“The expectations are there,” Moore said before the draft, via Sam Frost of the Mirror. “I know he expects us to be open at a certain time, so that's going to be one of the better things. So I have to be on the same page with him going forward. It may be fast, it may be slow. It may take some time, but I hope it's quick. ”
Moore also admitted that he had already sensed leadership from Williams during training.
“it was cool [being around Williams]”He had a laid-back personality, but when he had to speak up, he spoke up and asked questions and all the things you would expect from a leader at the quarterback position,” Moore said. That made me happy. ”
For the Bears, it's great that Williams and his receivers already have a rapport, especially now that they're officially teammates. These four will form much of the core of Chicago's offense over the next few years and could be the key to the Bears finally having a great passing offense.
Chicago has been deprived of greatness at the quarterback position for decades, but Williams is expected to change that. Building relationships and working with star receivers will put him in a good position to meet the expectations of the lefties he faces. Playing with a trio of receivers who will all have over 1,200 yards in 2023 certainly doesn't hurt either. Once those elements are in place and the relationships are formed, Williams appears to be in a great position to succeed.
