Some players have local ties, including Marcus Golder, who played at Clackamas High School and Portland State University, and also played overseas before returning home.
“I'm really happy to be with a great group of guys who are having such a good time. Great coaching staff, great organization that really supports you and always has your back,” Golder said. .
Thomas Miles is also a local player on the team. He was a member of the state championship team at Jefferson High School in 2017. He played at Warner the past two years at the University of the Pacific. His Vancouver Volcanoes are giving him a chance to keep his basketball dream alive.
“I love basketball. I always have fun!” Miles said. Whenever I go out on the court and train, I have a lot of fun. ”
The basketball league has nearly 40 teams across the country, and the regular season runs from March to June. The playoffs lead to the U.S. Championship Tournament. Currently, the Vancouver Volcanoes are the top team in the Pacific Northwest.
This summer, the team will offer clinics and camps for youth basketball players.
Assistant coach Porter Group says the clinics and camps are a way to connect with the Vancouver community.
“This is just a way for the Vancouver community to feel like they have something of their own. They can contribute to growth,” the troupe said.
