South San Francisco, California – LMU, which won the 2024 WCC Beach Volleyball Tournament title, earned the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship and will face No. 9 seed Hawaii in an opening round game at 10 a.m. Friday. This match will also be a rematch of last year's first round match.
All 17 team spots for the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship were announced Sunday morning. The single-elimination tournament begins Friday, with the No. 16 and No. 17 seeds facing off, and the 16-team tournament begins on the same day. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on Saturday, and the championship game will be held on Sunday.
The Lions will be making their fourth appearance in the NCAA Championships. LMU defeated Hawaii 3-1 in the first round last season, but lost to USC in the second round by the final score.
The entire NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship will be televised on the ESPN network, with Friday's first round on ESPNU, Saturday's quarterfinals and semifinals on ESPN2, and Sunday's championship match on ESPN.
The Lions, led by head coach John Mayer, won the WCC Beach Volleyball Tournament title last Friday by winning all three games in the two-day tournament. LMU defeated Santa Clara 5-0 on Friday and defeated Pepperdine 4-1 and 3-1 on Friday to win the conference championship. LMU enters his NCAA Championship with a total of 27 wins and 13 losses, including his current five-game winning streak.
