Another Oklahoma State transfer could head west.
After one season at OSU, forward Justin McBride has entered the transfer portal. The former cowboy will be visiting Nevada this weekend, according to a tweet from his father, Regis McBride.
Unlike most of OSU's offseason departures, McBride entered the transfer portal after new coach Steve Lutz was hired. Lutz made it clear in his induction press conference that he wanted to have open and honest conversations with the players from last season's team who had previously remained in Stillwater.
McBride was one of those players, and Lutz mentioned a conversation he had with McBride during his introduction. It appears that these conversations may have led to McBride's entry into the portal.
McBride had limited action last season, but he showed a lot of upside. He appeared in 24 games, averaging 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 6.4 minutes.
McBride never got consistent playing time and struggled to find a rhythm when he was on the floor. He added eight points and one block against Sam Houston in his second college game, his highest scoring performance as a freshman.
McBride played the most minutes in Big 12 play in the Cowboys' final two games of the regular season, playing over 10 minutes and scoring in games against Texas Tech and BYU.
At 6-foot-8 and 230 pounds, McBride has the size and athleticism to play on many teams around the country. Nevada could be a solid fit for McBride after the Wolfpack's strong season. Last season, coach Steve Alford's team finished second in the Mountain West standings and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
McBride came to OSU as a four-star prospect, expected to play a key role in the team's future. Although he didn't work out in Stillwater, McBride may have an opportunity to contribute wherever he goes.
