Former Purdue fifth-year forward Mason Gillis, a 23-year-old who has played in 132 college games and has one year of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer, spoke to Duke basketball head coach John Scheier and his staff on Monday. He made his decision clear. Four days later, the show confirmed his addition to the Brotherhood through a press release and an announcement across its social media accounts.
Currently named the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year, he averaged 6.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 46.8 percent from the charity stripe for the Boilermakers' team that reached the national championship. A success rate of 86.0% was recorded.
Gillis will head to Durham this summer, along with at least one other former Syracuse forward, Malik Brown, who has committed to Duke basketball.

In a press release officially announcing the signing of Mason Gillis, Scheyer praised the 6-foot-6, 225-pound undisputed winner.
“I can't wait for Mason Gillis to arrive on campus,” Scheier said, referring to the former three-star player from New Castle, Indiana. “Mason will be one of the most experienced players in the country next year, having spent five years there.” He won more than 100 games at Purdue and shot 47 percent from 3-point range last season, the best in the nation. He is also one of the shooters.
“Mason is all about winning and doing whatever the team needs. He brings incredible competitiveness and toughness to our program, and his leadership will add tremendous value to our team. It will have an impact.โ
