BISMARCK, N.D. — The 2023-24 season was full of records for the University of Mary women's basketball team. The Marauders ended the year with their first appearance in the NSIC Tournament Championship.
The key to this successful season was graduate student Lexi Schneider. Schneider returned from a season-ending injury before the start of last season and broke his record. She is the second player in program history to be named NSIC Player of the Year, setting a record for most Player of the Week awards in a single season with six.
Schneider says his year was the best year to end her career.
“As far as this season goes, it's as close to perfect as I know,” she says. “We have a lot of records. Of course we wanted to go to the national tournament, but I don't think we should take lightly the fact that we lost to the national champion in that championship game as well. It just showed how good the league is and how good the team really is. We had a chance to go to nationals and we should have done as well as we could and we were record-breakers. I’m excited to end on something special.”
After graduating on Saturday, Schneider plans to begin a professional career in marketing and social media.
