SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament was held here Wednesday in the birthplace of basketball.
Eight teams competed in the Springfield Women's Series, with top finishing teams improving their chances of being allocated to future stops en route to the Women's Series finals.
22News had the opportunity to watch some of the world's best basketball players showcase their skills and talent in this unique 3-on-3 format. The game is played in half court, with a 10 minute game clock and a 12 second shot clock. This 3-on-3 format of his speeds up the conditions of play and forces the athlete to make decisions more quickly and make very quick reads with his teammates. The end result is a very dynamic and exciting viewing experience.
U.S. Basketball Team court coach Damon Huffman told 22News about the importance of Wednesday's series: This is the preparation for the Olympics, this is where they decide who's on the roster, who's going to go to the Olympics, and we have all the teams, different athletes, different basketball players, different professionals. So it was a great experience to see them all compete at the highest level. ”
The Springfield Women's Series will be the first FIBA 3×3 Women's Series event to be held in the United States since the series' inception in 2019.
