INDIANAPOLIS โ The National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Committee today announced the field for the 11 teams that will compete in the 23rd National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship.
The top five teams will be seeded into a bracket and the top four seeds will host the regional tournament. The regional semifinals will be held on March 14th and the regional finals will be held on March 16th. The winning team from each regional final will advance to the 2024 NCAA Women's Frozen 4, which will take on the University of New Hampshire on March 22nd and 24th at Whitmore Center Arena in Durham, New Hampshire. Hampshire will host.
Five conferences were awarded automatic bids to the 2024 tournament. The remaining six teams were selected overall. The automatic qualifying conference and its representatives are College Hockey America, Pennsylvania. ECAC Hockey, Colgate; Hockey East Association, UConn; New England Women's Hockey Alliance, Stonehill. Wisconsin Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Clarkson, Cornell, Minnesota, Minnesota-Duluth, Ohio State and St. Lawrence were selected as the at-large teams. UConn and Stonehill are both making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Ohio State enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed and will play the winner of the regional semifinal between Minnesota Duluth and UW on Thursday at the Ohio State Ice Rink. Second-seeded Wisconsin will play the winner of the regional semifinal between St. Lawrence and Penn State on Thursday at La Verne Arena. Colgate enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face the winner of Thursday's regional semifinal game between Cornell and Stonehill. Fourth-seeded Clarkson will host fifth-seeded Minnesota in the regional final on March 16. All game times will be updated and posted on NCAA.com.
Both national semifinal matches will be broadcast on Friday, March 22nd. The first semifinal game will be broadcast on ESPN+ at 4:00 PM ET, and the second semifinal game will also be broadcast on ESPN+ at 7:30 PM ET. The national championship game will be held on Sunday, March 24th at 4pm ET on ESPNU.
The 2023 championship was held in Duluth, Minnesota, and was won by Wisconsin with a 1-0 victory over Ohio State.
