During his time as a Duke University basketball superstar, JJ Redick was one of the most hated men in America. The All-American became one of the Blue Devils' best players in program history and continued his 15-year career in the NBA until his retirement after the 2020-21 season.
Despite being widely hated in college, public opinion did a complete 180 on Redick as he slowly but surely began to take over the basketball world during his playing career.
After his playing career ended, he quickly became a mainstay of ESPN's NBA coverage, becoming the lead broadcaster alongside Mike Breen and Doris Burke. In addition to television, he has also found success as the host of his two podcasts, including one with LeBron James.
But despite his success in the media world, it appears Redick still has new heights to reach in the world of basketball.
On Monday, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported that the former Blue Devil is scheduled to interview for the head coaching position with the Charlotte Hornets.
The 39-year-old has publicly expressed an interest in coaching in the past, even though he admitted on his podcast that he only has coaching experience with his son's AAU team.
If the NBA veteran can garner serious attention for a coaching position, he could take command of a roster that boasts three other members of the Brotherhood.
Former Blue Devil Mark Williams is part of Charlotte's young core, while veteran sharpshooter Seth Curry and big man Marques Bolden also play for the Hornets.
It remains to be seen how serious the interests between the two countries are. Perhaps the result of this interview will put him in the NBA, along with the Duke basketball point guard of the late 1980s and Quin Snyder's assistant under Mike Krzyzewski of the Atlanta Hawks in the 1990s. There could be a new Blue Devil head coach.
