Former Kentucky basketball player Carter Knox committed to the University of Arkansas and coach John Calipari on Monday afternoon.
He and his parents arrived in Fayetteville on Monday morning for an official visit. Being reunited with Calipari, as well as his relationship with associate head coach Kenny Payne, was a big motivator for him to commit to Arkansas.
“It's home. Cal moved here. I have Cal and KP, both of whom are uncles,” Knox said. “I’m ready to give my all for this program and win a national championship.”
Knox, who played with the Overtime Elite last season, signed Calipari at Kentucky in early March before resuming his recruitment following reports of Calipari moving to Arkansas.
Knox, a McDonald's All-American, was one of six members of Kentucky's 2024 class rated No. 2 in the nation by On3.com.
The 6-6, 224-pound Knox averaged 23.1 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 43.8 percent from the field, 34 percent from 3-point range and 63.2 percent from the free throw line for RWE in extra innings. Recorded.
On his first visit to Arkansas, the Arkansas practice facility and Walton Arena stood out.
“I love the Arkansas campus,” he said. “The facility was a mess. It was my first time going in there. It was just shocking. I didn't know it was this nice. The arena is nice, the practice facility is nice. Everything is perfect.”
He is the younger brother of former Kentucky forward Kevin Knox, who was selected ninth overall by the New York Knicks in the 2018 NBA Draft.
A consensus four-star recruit, On3.com rates him the No. 6 small forward and No. 19 prospect in the nation in the 2024 class.
Knox noted that the Hogs' only national championship came in 1994.
“They've only won one game yet,” he said. “They've only won one national championship, but I'm working hard to win another one.”
Knox was the second-leading scorer on the Nike EYBL circuit during the regular season last spring and summer, averaging 21.2 points while shooting 54 percent from the field and 34 percent from beyond the three-point line. He also averaged 4.5 rebounds.
His father, Kevin Knox Sr., won a national football championship as a receiver for Florida State University in 1993.
Later in the hiring process, Knox added Chickenman to his Instagram profile.
“I love chicken, I love chicken, so Chicken Man is coming to town,” Knox said. “what can I say?”
Knox, a native of Tampa, Fla., will be Calipari's second coach since he was officially named the new head coach at the University of Arkansas on April 10. Former University of Kentucky freshman big man Zvonimir Ivicic committed to the Razorbacks last Monday.
The Razorbacks have 11 scholarships remaining to fill 13 scholarship spots.
Correction: A previous version listed Knox as a 5-star prospect by Rivals, but that was an outdated ranking. The site currently lists him as a four-star prospect.
