Creighton men’s basketball has hired Trey Zeigler as an assistant, coach Greg McDermott announced Monday afternoon, returning a familiar face to Omaha.
Zeigler was with the Jays as a graduate assistant during the 2022-23 season, which ended in the Elite Eight. He fills a void left by former assistant Jalen Courtney-Williams, who left for a similar position at LSU, his alma mater.
“I’m extremely excited to be back at Creighton,” Zeigler said via release. “Coach McDermott and the rest of the staff continue to elevate this program. I am honored to be part of a great staff and come back to a place I consider a second home.”
Zeigler spent this past season as an assistant at High Point — under former CU assistant Alan Huss.
Before then, he played professionally in nine different countries from 2015-22 after a college career that took him from Central Michigan to Pittsburgh to TCU.

After testing the coaching waters the past couple years, Zeigler is diving in with a step up to Power 6.
Creighton benefits by adding a youthful recruiter — the same thing the Jays lost with the departure of Courtney-Williams — to a staff full of experience.
McDermott’s staff for his 15th season in Omaha now includes assistants Ryan Miller, Derek Kellogg, Zeigler, Assistant to the Head Coach Steve Merfeld and Director of Basketball Operations Jeff Vanderloo.
“I’m excited to welcome Trey back to Omaha,” McDermott said via release. “He was instrumental in the development of our roster during his time on our coaching staff. His work ethic and ability to connect with people was exactly what I was looking for. The youthful energy and knowledge of our system and style of play will allow for a smooth transition.”
