The UCLA women's basketball team had a very successful season, despite some adversity along the way. They reached the Sweet Sixteen for the second year in a row, but ultimately fell short of their goal of winning the national championship.
However, there is still much to be thankful for this year, and the continued growth of the program is evident. Head coach Cori Close plans to use this summer to bring more talent to the squad, possibly through his transfer portal.
One name that comes to mind is former Pac-12 contender Regan Beers, who just entered the portal after spending two seasons at Oregon State. Beers is considered one of the best scorers in college basketball and could give the Bruins much-needed offensive firepower.
Last season with the Beavers, she averaged 17.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Beers will be playing in the Big Ten again this season, which will bring her even more national attention.
While at Oregon State, she saw how UCLA plays that style of basketball. Her scoring will be of great benefit to the Bruins, especially guard Charisma Osborn, who is currently in the WNBA.
If UCLA wants to compete with other teams in today's college basketball, they need to bring in more offense. Beals is one of the program's options, and she could be the missing piece the Bruins were looking for.
