On Sunday afternoon, the Clash basketball team hosted a star-studded reunion in the DJ dugout. Seven girls who played on the senior basketball team in 2015 will play on varsity track and field next year. “The statistics are out there, 7% of high school athletes play at the next level, which means with the right mindset and the right approach, you can do anything you want to do,” said former Crush head coach Ryan Wolfe. It shows what can be done.” Of the seven athletes who play sports in college, Reece Booth (University of Northern Iowa Volleyball), Taylor Hansen (Simpson College Basketball), Olivia Mauck (University of Nebraska Volleyball), and Addie Maxell (Morningside College Softball) , Sydney Stodden (University of South Dakota Track & Field), Haley Wolfe (Fort Hays State Volleyball) and Lexi Zeiss (LSU Gymnastics) – only one is still playing basketball. “Even my main sport at the time wasn't basketball, it was soccer.” “We were a group of athletic girls who were like, 'Let's start playing basketball.' From then on, I stuck with basketball.” ” This team was aptly called “The Clash” because they often beat the competition. “As sixth graders, we played against eighth graders and still beat them. They weren't too happy when we beat them,” Maxell joked. The playbook was filled with plays such as “Marshmallow” and “Shotgun.” “Addy threw it on the court and Cindy ran as fast as she could.'' “Normally it would have worked,'' Hansen said. Although the team's wins far outweighed its losses, the girls looked back fondly on the fact that it was not just about the results. “There was no pressure because we went to practice and had fun together,” Mauch said. The lessons he learned during his senior year are still ingrained in his players. “Not playing a lot helped me be able to take on a different role on the team in the future even if I don't play,” Hayley Wolfe said. We still keep in touch and plan to continue supporting each other next year and beyond. “I love all of them and will always follow their careers. I will always follow their careers and always look back on our memories and feel very happy for them.” added Wolff.
