SHEFFIELD, England (AP) – Burnley beat Sheffield United 4-1 in the English Premier League on Saturday to move within three points.
Goals from Jacob Brune Larsen and Lorenz Assignon within the final two minutes of the first half at Bramall Lane put Burnley on track for an important win against bottom-placed Sheffield United.
The Blades were on the brink of a comeback early in the second half when Gus Hammer pulled one back, but further goals from Lyle Foster and substitute Johann Berg Gutmundsson left Burnley with an impressive record of just one defeat in seven games. He maintained his recent condition.
Vincent Kompany's 19th-placed team picked up 10 points during that run. They have played three more games than 17th-placed Nottingham Forest, who are three places below them.
Burnley took the lead in the 38th minute with a deflected shot from Bruun Larsen, and Assignon doubled the visitors' lead two minutes later with a tipped shot.
Hammer brought Sheffield United back into the game seven minutes after the break, scoring a stunning right-footed shot inside the far post.
The home side's hopes of fighting back were dealt a huge blow when Burnley goalkeeper Alijanet Muric denied Breton Dias an equaliser.
Assignon worked his way up the right and found Foster in the box with a low ball, and the striker made no mistake from 58 yards to six.
Burnley completed the rout in the 71st minute with a stunning goal from Guðmundsson less than a minute after he came off the bench.
Burnley's points could have been even bigger, but Gudmundsson sensed a chance to turn things around from the post.
Sheffield United are 10 points from safety.
