SOUTH BEND — As brave little tulips bloom on the soft April ground of northern Indiana, many Notre Dame football players will be making their own blooms during the showcase at the 93rd Blue Gold Game on Saturday afternoon. I hope it blooms.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Notre Dame Stadium. Assistant coaches Al Washington (Blue Team) and Deland McCullough (Gold Team) will serve as acting head coaches for the intrasquad scrimmage that concludes the 2024 spring training period.
The Irish are coming off a 10-3 season in 2023 that culminated with a victory over Oregon State in the Sun Bowl in El Paso. Notre Dame opens the 2024 season on Aug. 31 at Texas A&M.

What is the format of the Notre Dame Blue Gold game?
- Matches are played using traditional scoring.
- The first half will consist of four 15-minute quarters at regular timing. A running clock will be introduced in the second half, and if the game score is close at the end of the game, normal clock rules will be reverted at the discretion of the head coach.
- There is one live kickoff to start the game. All other changes to the ball after scoring will result in ball placement.
- The team was drafted by members of the program on Thursday. Players wearing green jerseys can compete on both teams.
- No punts will occur in the game. If a team decides to punt, the ball is moved 40 yards down the field and possession changes hands.
- Field goals and PATs will be live.
