The match was brought to the final kick.
After 100 minutes of play, the Grand Island High School girls soccer team was tied 1-1 with Fremont.
GISH's Corey Hernandez will step up to the plate and either extend the shootout or end it with Fremont on top. Hernandez's shot went high and hit the football crossbar, giving Fremont the win.
“That game was one of those we wanted to get back to,” GISH coach Brian LaMarro said.
Friday's game was the second straight matchup in recent days for GISH and Fremont. Fremont won 3-2 in overtime in the HAC Tournament on Thursday.
“We were able to see how our girls could come back and see their overall fitness by playing two games in a row,” Ramaro said. “It's also about their mental side, but how do they bounce back after losing such a close game?”

After 80 minutes of scoreless play, the game went into overtime.
It didn't take long for things to change, with Fremont scoring in the 82nd minute when a cross slipped through the hands of GISH goalkeeper Ania Roberts and slotted the ball into the goal with the feet of Katia Pérez Aracon. decided.
Less than three minutes later, the Islanders tied the score on a free kick from more than 40 yards out by Caprice Richardson.
“It's crazy,” Fremont coach Chad Manning said. “When we scored the first goal just minutes into extra time, I looked at the bench and thought, 'Why couldn't we have scored three minutes earlier?' The ball obviously bounced in our direction in this game. But it was a very exciting match.”
The Tigers and Islanders each had great chances in the first five minutes of the game, but to no avail.
GISH came out with energy and purpose as two seniors, Lydia Yousif and Caprice Hontiveros, were recognized at Senior Night before the game.
“I think a lot of the girls came in with that in mind and wanted to play the two seniors,” Ramaro said.
Fremont had a 4-3 shot advantage at halftime, but both teams had roughly equal chances.
“At halftime, it was like, 'Hey, we're in control of our own destiny now, how we want this game to end.' The girls came in with that side of them. That’s what we were hoping for, but to be honest, it didn’t work out the way we wanted it to,” Ramaro said.
In the second half, things changed from a shooting standpoint.
Fremont had four shots in the first half but went up to 11 in the second half.
“We wanted the girls to go out and shoot on goal,” Manning said.
Roberts isn't the Islanders' typical starting goaltender, but he's been a wall throughout. He made a total of 13 saves.
“She played phenomenal. She came out and thought, 'I want to win tonight,'” Ramaro said. “She filled in for our keeper who was a bit injured at the moment, so she filled in for her well and put in a great performance.”
It wasn't enough in the end, as the Islanders fell to 0-13 on the season and Fremont improved to 4-11.
GISH's next game will be at Lincoln High School on Monday at 5 p.m.
“When we come back to play on Monday, it’s just how we react after the last three games, two, three close games and come out and get our first win of the year,” Ramallo said.
