HONOLULU — University of Hawaii men's basketball coach Elan Ganot announced the addition of graduate transfer Tanner Christensen to the Rainbow Warriors roster for the 2024-25 season. Christensen will have one year of eligibility at Cal after playing the past four seasons at Utah Tech and the University of Idaho.
At 6-10, 275 pounds, Christensen brings size, skill and experience to the college frontcourt. The Spokane, Wash., native played in 113 games and started 93 in college. He started all 63 games over the past two seasons at Utah Tech. Last year, he averaged 11.5 points, shot 56.4 percent from the floor, and had 6.8 rebounds and 48 blocks per game. He also showed the ability to spread the floor, making 15 3-pointers in his two years with the Trail Blazers.
“We are so happy to welcome Tanner and his wife Emily to our 'ohana,” Ganot said. “He is a true center who brings toughness, physicality, rebounding, shot-blocking and scoring ability. He also has the intangibles of great character, relentless work ethic and strong leadership abilities that we believe will help us… It will greatly help improve our program.”
Before attending Utah Tech, Christensen practiced for two seasons at the University of Idaho. In his second year with the Vandals, he started 27 of 28 games and averaged 8.5 points on 57.3 percent shooting and 6.4 rebounds per game. As a true freshman, he played in 22 games, starting three of them.
Before attending college, Christensen served on a church mission in Argentina for two years. He speaks Spanish fluently, has a bachelor's degree in finance, and is pursuing a master's degree in accounting from Utah Tech University.
