The Syracuse Orange will conclude their 2024 spring practice with a spring game Saturday night at 7 p.m. at JMA Dome (streaming on ACCNX).
Don't expect too many secrets to be revealed on Saturday, but there's still reason to check out Fran Brown's team. Here are the people/contents we'll be looking at:
Kevin: Backfield backup.
We know Kyle McCord and LuQuint Allen are locked into the starting spots, so this week will be an opportunity to see the growth of the returning players and the skill of the January additions. At quarterback, they'll look to Carlos Del Rio Wilson and Braden Davis, while J'Waun Price, Jaden Hart and Yasin Willis will get a chance to show what they can do at running back.
Microphone: 3-1-5, 4-2-5
We got a glimpse of Elijah Robinson's new defensive scheme in open practice, but there are a lot of moving parts on that front, so it will be interesting to see how the unit performs under the added pressure. They will have some real hitting and tackling on Saturday, but the addition of Clarence Lewis shows that some jobs are not yet safe. A memorable time before summer.
Steve: What do you think? The offensive line…
You have to stay on brand, but there are some promises and question marks throughout this unit. We've seen some position changes, some transfers made a name for themselves, and some players getting healthy. Mark Petry appears to have been demoted to guard, incoming transfer Demetrius Weatherspoon has a decent tackle spot at the moment, and David Wollabaugh continues his return from injury, but it's likely they won Becoming a rebuilt defensive line that could give them fits, they need to see how they hold up against anything.
Dom: McCord's pitch worth highlighting
This is a simple answer, but we've actually seen the X clip quickly on some of McCord's throws. There's some understandable excitement considering Syracuse boasts multiple legitimate weapons on offense, but Saturday will be Syracuse fans' first chance to see the former Ohio State quarterback in action. Given the excitement around the program as a whole, I'm expecting a quality atmosphere in the Dome, and I'm hoping for his one or two of McCord's highlights.
Christian: Apple branded pointy projectile.
The new product from our favorite corporate overlord is iDART, an upgraded version of DART. By now, most online Syracuse football fans are familiar with Fran Brown's DART mantra: Detailed, Accountable, Relentless, Tough. He would like to add one more of his DART beliefs that he has reiterated through conversations with players and coaches. Its mantra is “strength”. For all we can speculate, we might witness an even more intense spring game than what we're used to seeing in the Dome. The level of intensity and effort seen in the spring game could be a statement of intent for how Syracuse wants to transform the ACC and the world of college football.
