HOUSTON – HCU Athletic Director Steve Moniasi announced the hiring of Nick Whiting as the Huskies women's soccer head coach on Friday afternoon.
“I am very pleased to announce the hiring of Nick Whiting as the next Director of Women’s Soccer here at HCU,” Moniaci said. “Nick steps into this role already familiar with the Southland Conference from his time at McNeese, having won multiple conference championships, including conference championships, both as a head coach as well as an associate head coach. We look forward to continued success with Nick as he leads the women's program. ”
Whiting comes to HCU after spending two seasons as an associate head coach at Western Carolina University, where he led the Catamounts to both the Southern Conference regular season and tournament championships and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. WCU finished the regular season with a perfect 7-2 record and won the first outright SoCon title in program history, boasting a top-25 scoring offense and a top-25 scoring defense.

I want to thank Stan Williamson and the entire university for being a prestigious program,'' Whiting said. “I quickly learned that HCU is a special place with great people, and I am honored to serve as its next head coach.”

Whiting helped lead the Catamounts to a Top 70 RPI in NCAA Division I, the highest in program history, and also coached SoCon Player of the Year Isabella DeMarco. He was at WCU both seasons and the program ranked in the top 10 in Division I in team GPA.
“I am so grateful for my time at Western Carolina, Coach Miller, the amazing student-athletes, and everyone else who supported me and my goals in my previous coaching positions,” Whiting added. “I look forward to returning to Southland and building similar bonds with HCU’s current team and experiencing a high level of success together.”
Prior to his time at WCU, Whiting spent six seasons at McNeese, a member of the Southland Conference, serving as the program's associate head coach for four of those seasons. In his final season with the Cowgirls, he went 9-2-1 in SLC play and helped lead McNeese to a 13-5-2 overall record. During his time at Lake Charles, he coached players to SLC Player of the Year, Forward of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Several years prior to his time at McNeese, Whiting coached one season as an assistant at the University of Louisiana, where he compiled an 8-10-2 record and made it to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Prior to that, he was the head coach for three seasons at Lees-McRae University in Banner Elk, North Carolina, where he led the Bobcats to two Conference Carolinas regular season titles and a 29-23-4 record. Ta. He spent two seasons as an assistant at Leeds-McRae before taking over the head job.
Whiting served as a graduate assistant at WCU in 2008 and also spent a year as an assistant at Catawba College. He graduated from the University of West Florida in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Communication Arts/Public Relations and then earned his master's degree in the United States. Whiting takes over an HCU program that went 7-11 last season under Chris Dodd and 4-6 in SLC. The Huskies advanced to the semifinals of the SLC tournament thanks to a come-from-behind victory over second-seeded Texas A&M-Commerce on the first day of the tournament.
