Middlebury, Vermont โ DJ Dixon '24 and Zack Stimling '27 tallied the performance of the Wesleyan men's hockey team, which lost 5-2 to Middlebury College in a NESCAC game Friday night at Chip Kenyon Arena in Middlebury.
The Panthers (6-9-4 overall, 4-6-3 NESCAC) came out early, opening the game with a come-from-behind goal by Jing Li less than a minute into the game.
Dixon responded for the Cardinals (5-13-1 overall, 3-9-1 NESCAC) at 13:39 of the first inning, bringing the game to one point. Dixon threw the puck into the back of the goal from the Panthers' blue line. owen sweet '25 picks it up on the other side of the goal.Sweet sent the puck back. ethan davidson '26 scored on the left post, and Davidson passed the puck over the goalmouth, forcing Dixon to come forward. Dixon is tied with Sweet for the team lead in goals this season with six.
Stimling gave the Cardinals their first lead of the game a minute later at 12:20 with an unassisted goal off Farboard. Stimling jump-started the play in the Cardinals' own defensive zone, slid the puck up the right boards, then took a narrow shot low and the puck went over the shoulder of Panthers goaltender Jack Horoho.
Lee scored his second goal of the game with his only goal in the second period, tying the game at two points. Jackson Morehouse scored two goals of his own in the third period, but it was the Panthers' first goal on a power-play opportunity. Chris Garbe scored the game-winning goal and the Panthers won 5-2.
Dixon led the way with 13 draw wins from the faceoff circle. danny judge '26 finished behind him with nine draws and wins.
At the Cardinals goal, Eric Voloshin '24 made 36 saves on the night. Horoho finished with 23 saves.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Feb. 3, when they travel to Williams for a NESCAC matchup at 3 p.m.
