Travis Hunter is already known as the most versatile player in college football after winning the 2023 Paul Hornung Award.
The Colorado two-way star is currently ranked as college football's No. 1 player for the 2024 season by CBS Sports.
“He (Hunter) is a generational player and the fewer snaps he takes on offense at wide receiver will be even more effective for Colorado's defense,” CBS Sports college football analyst Blake Brockermeyer said. It will be,” he said. “Hunter missed a few games after taking a cheap shot in the Colorado State game, but still logged 1,044 snaps. He logged seven games with over 100 snaps, and as a two-way player We accomplished that.”
“That's more than two seasons of appearances for a typical defender.”
Brockermeyer is a former All-American offensive tackle at the University of Texas and was a first-round pick (29th overall) in the 1995 NFL Draft.
Hunter is also eyeing a future first-round draft pick after becoming the first Colorado football player to be named an All-American since 2010. The first-team All-Pac-12 player finished second on the team with 57 catches for 721 yards. Even though he missed three games with an injury, he scored five touchdowns. Defensively, Hunter tied for the team lead in interceptions (three), led the Buffaloes in pass breakups (five) and recorded 31 total tackles.
Colorado has two of the best players in college football this year in top-ranked Hunter and quarterback Shedur Sanders. Both players are expected to be among the first handful of picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The only question Hunter has to answer is whether he will continue to be a star on both sides of the ball at the next level.
“It’s a smooth corner and Hunter is great in the press,” Brockermeyer said. “In a Cover 2 scheme, he has the ability to undercut routes and make plays on the ball. Hunter has great hands and will sacrifice his body to make plays. He has smooth hips that can track the main receiver and adjust to the ball “balls thrown into his area and rolled into a PBU.
“Hunter has shown great ability to understand and match offensive patterns, as well as make-up speed to catch up and make plays on slightly hit balls. What will happen to the two-way timeshare? And is it possible to continue in the NFL? ”
