The Washington Commanders on Monday hired Dave Gardy as senior vice president of football initiatives, bringing the respected member of the NFL office on board as part of their new front office.
Gardi has worked for the league for 21 years, including the past 10 years as senior vice president of soccer operations. His responsibilities to the manager are expected to range from in-game management to adhering to league protocols and directing trends and safety guidelines.
“Dave is one of the most highly regarded executives in the NFL league office and has a wealth of knowledge of the game,” new general manager Adam Peters said in a statement. “He will be an invaluable addition to our front office as we continue to usher in a new era of Washington Commanders football.”
At the NFL, Mr. Gardy played a role in developing competitive balance and integrity policies and procedures and helped oversee game day rules administration.
“Dave Gardy is one of the brightest minds in our league when it comes to football operations,” coach Dan Quinn said. “His addition has improved our organization across the board.”
Gardy, a native of Sayville, New York, played four years as a quarterback at Brown in the late 1980s and early '90s and earned a law degree from Hofstra University.
