Ryan Warner is excited about his new challenge as a high school football coach.
On Friday at Pebble Hills High School, he was officially introduced as the school's new head football coach.
Warner replaces Mark Torres, who left to become head football coach at Buda Hayes High School near Austin. Warner becomes the second head football coach in school history.
Torres won 47 games in eight years with the Spartans, including 18 games in 2022 and 2023.
Warner spent time on Franklin's staff before taking over as head coach at Chapin, spending four years as head coach. His best season was 2021, when the Huskies won nine games and won the bi-district title.
“It was with great emotion that I said goodbye to the Chapin children,” said Warner, who graduated from Chapin in 2004. “We have great kids at Chapin, kids who are going to do great things, and this school means a lot to me. Pebble Hills has been a great opportunity for me and for my professional development, and I'm looking forward to this opportunity. We're excited about that. We're starting spring practice now, and it's going to be a big thing for us as we aim to improve and figure out where we are.”
Along with Torres, Warner cited veteran coaches from El Paso, Canutillo's Scott Brooks and Franklin's Darren Walker as coaches he looked to for advice on this change.
“We're going to play fast and be physical,” Warner said. “We're going to strive every day to get better.”
