Montevallo โ The Montevallo Bulldogs boys and girls soccer teams continued their winning streak with a win over the Shelby County Wildcats, but perhaps just as importantly, they honored their seniors on a special night.
The Montevallo girls won 4-0 and the boys 5-0 to win the Senior Night doubleheader on Thursday, April 11th at Montevallo High School.
The Bulldogs won the girls game by multiple goals, but much of the offense came after a tense first half.
Montevallo took the lead in the first half but couldn't add anything before intermission as Shelby County stayed close looking for its first win or tie of the season.
However, the Bulldogs broke through in the second half and extended their 1-0 lead at halftime to secure the victory.
Montevallo scored three goals after the half-time break to take a four-point lead with more attacking power in the first half.
The Bulldogs remained scoreless throughout the game, earning a 4-0 shutout victory.
The men's team then held their own to a win in the second game of the doubleheader.
Montevallo started the game with two goals in the first half and took an early lead.
The Bulldogs held their defense and held the scoreless game throughout the first half, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead at halftime.
This shutout defense continued into the second half, as Montevallo finished without a goal and kept its county rivals at bay.
The Bulldogs then added three more goals in the final 40 minutes to seal a 5-0 victory on Senior Night.
Montevallo has two games left until the end of the regular season, the first of which will be the area finale against Holt. The Bulldogs will travel to Holt High School on Tuesday, April 16th for the girls game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys game at 7 p.m.
This was the last game of the season for the Shelby County University women's team, while the men's team will conclude the season with a home game against Childersburg on Tuesday, April 23rd at 7:30 p.m.
