With Armando Bacot having exhausted his eligibility, the UNC basketball program has some pretty big talent at the “center” position.
With Jaylen Washington currently on the roster for next season, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program are exploring the possibility of the transfer portal to add frontcourt depth.
According to NJ.com's Adam Zagoria, the Tar Heels are one of the latest programs to be linked to Rutgers-bound big man Clifford Omoruyi. Zagoria points to the UNC basketball program and Boston College as the latest schools to reach out to the talented big man with one season of college eligibility remaining.
Omoruyi spent his first four seasons at Rutgers, developing into a near double-double threat. His best season came as a junior, when he averaged 13.2 points and 9.6 rebounds and served as a valuable rim protector for the Scarlet Knights.
The 6-foot-11, 240-pound big man isn't necessarily a threat from outside the paint, but he is a very consistent presence in the paint. If Hubert Davis and his staff are looking for a player to compliment Jaylen Washington, Omoruyi is a player who offers some of the same skill set that Bacot displayed during his career with the Tar Heels.
Of course, we've been hearing about potential interest since the end of the 2023-2024 season (and even before that), so there will be plenty of names in the transfer portal for the UNC basketball program to consider.
One thing is for sure: I expect the Tar Heels to be active as they look to add another big man to their roster next season.
