The BYU women's basketball team will need to replace several rotation players heading into its second season in the Big 12.
Rose Boubacar and Alia Matavao have entered the transfer portal, a person familiar with the situation told The Salt Lake Tribune. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly.
Even without the departures of Boubacar and Matavao, the Cougars already had to deal with roster attrition. Nani Faratea abruptly left the program midway through the season after appearing in just three games. Lauren Gustin and Kaylee Smiler graduate.
Kylie Woolston and McKinley Willardson embark on an 18-month mission to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Woolston started all 32 games and shot 46.6% from the 3-point line.
Boubacar spent three seasons at BYU. She played in 84 games, started 22, and played in every game her past two seasons. She averaged 4.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in her career.
As a freshman in 2023-24, Matavao came off the bench for 19 games.
BYU offers up to six scholarships for players transferring to the program.
There are currently 11 players listed on BYU's 2024-25 roster on the team's website. Potentially returning to the team are Amari Whiting, Kylie Krebs, Arielle Mackey-Williams, Heather Hamson, Emma Calvert and Lauren Davenport.
According to the website, the new students are Delaney Gibb, Sarah Bartholomew, Brynley Cannon and Cambree Barber.
