“We're a young team, so sometimes we look young. Tonight, obviously we looked like we were growing in the right direction. And hopefully we'll see more of that. And that's it. It looks like it's coming. This is going to be a good team. It's just a matter of when it comes together. And nights like this are very encouraging for that.”
With two goals and two assists, Fox was a welcome addition to the high school soccer scene for the first time.
“She's been a great addition. We're grateful to have her. We're very happy to have her and KD (sophomore newcomer Kayleigh Davis). Gray said.
Olivia Sandoval had two assists for the goal. Also scoring were freshmen Vera Clevinger, Ruby Acker, Addie Deaver and Eva Kyle.
Devin Dever, who is the glue of the PHS defense as a stopper, said the Tigres played well as a team.
“I think our communication has gotten better and we've definitely made more passes. Overall, we talk before the game to make sure we work everything out and play as a team,” she said. .
Deaver said she was happy to see her sister Addie cross the finish line, but added, “I wish it had been me.”
Fox and Gray said it was a good comeback from Saturday's Princeton tournament, where the Tigres won 8-3 and finished with a 1-2 record.
“We were 1-2 in the tournament, so it was nice to finally get a win and move our team forward,” Fox said. “We have Mendota tomorrow and we hope we can keep this momentum going. We just got here and we're confident of a win.”
“We're a young team so there's going to be some nights where we're not consistent and don't play well, but that will happen as we get more consistent,” Gray said. “You can see a lot of moments where it's there. I think you all saw some of that Saturday, and you saw a lot more tonight. As the season goes on, we see ourselves You'll see more of the good things you're doing and less of the bad.
“I feel good about what we're going to do. It's just a matter of whether everything works out.”
While the Tigres (3-5) were playing the eighth game, senior Josie Rader got H-BR, who was playing the first game, off an assist from classmate Liliana Martinez in the second half.
The Tigres return to action on Tuesday night on Mendota turf.
