Cornerback Jalil Florence, whose breakout sophomore season was cut short due to injury, has yet to participate in Oregon football's spring practice.
However, there is some optimism that he could return to the field in the coming weeks.
“We might get something out of him later in the spring,” assistant defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Chris Hampton said Thursday.
“I think his rehab is going pretty well. Talking to the chief (Kevin Still, associate director of exercise medicine) and talking to Jalil, he's in a much better place than he was about a month ago. Masu.”
Florence started nine games and played in 11 before suffering a season-ending foot injury on November 18 against Arizona State.
Playing opposite NFL cornerback prospect Kyrie Jackson, Florence totaled 27 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, and one interception.
Florence was a consensus four-star recruit in the Class of 2022 out of Lincoln High School in San Diego and a top-100 player nationally, according to 247Sports. He appeared in eight games as a freshman and recorded 208 defensive snaps.
“Ceiling? Oh my god, he has a lot of potential,” Hampton said. “I mean, Jalil is tall. He has the ability to change direction, you know, if he can stay healthy. … Last year, he came out and started a lot of games. After that. , he was injured. But I think Jalil is better.”
